First off I fastened slate battens to the top of the concrete fence posts. This way the fence panels can be removed from next door neighbours garden. (I've got VERY understanding neighbours).
Then I fastened steel strip from the slate batten down to the decking planks that the rails are laid on.
I then cable-tied chicken wire to the steel strips and stapled the chicken wire to the slate battens and the decking planks.
You can also see that I've fastened plant pots to the steel strips and covered them in chicken wire also.
As I said earlier - I have very understanding neighbours............
A slight design flaw meant that I had to run a little track into their garden........
This is to allow the loco to run whilst pushing a carriage. There was enough room without going into next door with a loco only - but not with a carriage also. But I think its going to add to the effect of the train disappearing off somewhere.
Once all the chicken wire was applied I draped Hessian cloth over the chicken wire. The Hessian is soaked in a very runny mortar mix of 3 parts sand 1 part cement and plenty of "Feb" platiciser (spelling?)
Here's a couple of close ups of the Hessian on the chicken wire.
You can see that I've tidied up the viaduct. I did render it up with a mortar render and I've painted it with Sandtex masonry paint .
You can see where the plant pots have been covered over.
The reason for the plant pots? Planning Permission!
Told my missus (The COW (Clerk Of Works) that I would make the mountain so it could support "greenery" - plants to you and me...
The Hessian soaked in watery concrete was left for a week to dry off and then a "hypertufa mix" has been rendered over the top. I've used the following recipe:-
1 part sand
1 part cement
2 parts sieved peat (you don't want a "lumpy" render)
Now you can see what the rest looks like.........
I'm going to create a tunnel over the lower line between the lower and upper rack line and also hide the rest of the fence using the same method as above.
The reason for the "hypertufa mix" is that I'm hoping that moss, lichen etc will start to grow on the peat that is in the mix. I'll have to wait and see..........
Problem is my missus now wants the plant pots filling with flowers.
Anybody know where I can buy Edelweiss from?
